Recommended age for first visit
Importance of regular follow-ups
An initial visit to the dentist is recommended at around age 2
During this examination, you will receive appropriate advice on preventive care for your child.
After that, your child can benefit from regular follow-ups that will cover not only dental health but also your child’s overall oral growth. Many services are offered free of charge to children under age 10. These care services are covered by Quebec’s health insurance board, the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). Unfortunately, polishing (cleaning) and fluoride application are not among the services covered by the RAMQ. These care services are nevertheless highly recommended and beneficial for young children since they help maintain good oral health.

Why repair a decayed primary tooth?
In addition to being used for chewing and speaking, primary teeth prepare the space and open the way for permanent teeth. A filling is a simple solution that helps prevent a problem that could lead to pain and infection. If no filling is done and the decay spreads, extraction of the tooth may be the only viable option. In this case, it may be necessary to use a space maintainer to ensure that the permanent tooth has enough room to push through when the time comes.
